Team Creative Zero

We are a group of students pursing a diploma in Child Psychology and Early Education in Ngee Ann Polytechnic. This project aims to find out how Holistic Development can be achieved in Singapore and what should be done in order to achieve it. We collected data from a local preschool to analyse its needs and proposed recommended solutions to tackle the problem.

Rationale

"Prepare our students for the future, education must develop the whole person"

“Developing the whole child must first begin with instilling the right character and values"

- Heng Swee Keat (Education Minister of Singapore) (Channel News Asia, 2017)

Holistic Development

Holistic education is defined as

  • acknowledgement of the multiple dimensions of the human personality

    • Physical

    • Intellectual

    • Aesthetic and emotional

    • (Early Childhood Developmental Agency, 2011)

Why Holistic Development is Important

It is the integration of academic and non-academic areas and this results in developing the children in a wholesome manner

Every aspect of a child’s development should be recognised and valued in order to maximise the potential of the child. You can help them to develop knowledge, skills and dispositions across the six learning areas

  •  Aesthetics and Creative Expression,

  • Discovery of the World,

  • Language and Literacy,

  • Motor Skills Development,

  • Numeracy

  • Social and Emotional Development. (Early Childhood Developmental Agency, 2011)
